Instructor: Michael O'Rourke, P.E., Ph.D., F.SEI
Course Length: 1 Hour
Purpose and Background
This webinar will describe changes to the rain load provisions in ASCE 7-22. This will be done thru a review of the load calculation procedure envisioned by ASCE 7. The specific changes to be covered are; the new hazard level, new definition for the secondary drainage system, and simplified procedures for calculation of the ponding load.
Learning Outcomes and Benefits
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Determine and be able to calculate the revised rain hazards
- Determine which secondary drainage systems satisfy ASCE 7 criterion
- Determine which high slope roof are exempt from rain loads
- Determine and be able to calculate ponding loads
- Determine which roof are exempt from rain loading due to high slope
- Determine a new simple procedure for determination of ponding loads
- Determine the rain load pitfalls associated with building additions
Assessment of Learning Outcomes
Achievement of the learning outcomes by attendees will be assessed through a short post-assessment (true-false, multiple choice and fill in the blank questions) will also be administered.
