Purpose and Background

Are there some people you just “click” with? Are there others you tend to “conflict” with? Don’t you wish you could understand what makes everyone “tick” so you could more effectively lead your team and work easily with the stakeholders on your projects?

This two-part webinar focuses on identifying and understanding individual behavioral style preferences and how they manifest in the project environment. Tools and techniques are demonstrated and examples offered on how to improve team relationships, performance and resolve conflicts. Participants will determine their own style preferences in common day-to-day project activities, such as communication modes, gathering and analyzing information, decision-making balancing process and organization, and how to identify the style preferences of others. The understanding of style preferences is based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), the development of which began in the 1930s and has continued to present day. Approximately 2 million people a year use the instrument worldwide.

A project leader or manager must consider individual team members’ behavioral style preferences in addition to their technical abilities in order to capitalize on their strengths and define the appropriate style of planning, monitoring, communication and coaching required for a successful project. These are critical skills for today’s project leaders. The technical factors may be challenging, but the “human factors” add many more levels of complexity.

• Determine their own style preference and how they prefer to work with others
• Adjust their behavior to make team members with different style preferences more comfortable
• Coach and make assignments to team members in ways that complement the team members’ style preferences
