Course Length: 1 Hour
Purpose and Background
The use of CFD as a cost-effective tool to evaluate ozone contactor hydraulics and to design gas-liquid contacting systems in demonstrated with a focus on ozone applications for disinfection in water treatment. Numerical modeling is used to evaluate application location, injection, mixing rates and efficient contactor configuration for optimal contact time to achieve required disinfection targets.
Primary Discussion Topics
- Water and Wastewater Treatment
- Computation Fluid Dynamics
- Disinfection Contactor
- Ozone Injection Application
- Water Quality
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Provide audiences with understanding of the potential benefits and limits of using CFD to design
- Provide audiences with case studies using CFD for ozone disinfection design for WTPs
- Provide audiences with a broad introduction to multiphase modeling with CFD
Webinar Benefits
- Find out about recent case studies using CFD to assist full-scale ozone disinfection design
- Learn about optimal injection methods and locations for through gas-liquid contacting
- Examine the possibilities of lowering energy use and footprint of treatment systems using CFD
- Avoid costly scale-up errors in sizing contactors to achieve target disinfection efficiency
- Avoid costly errors in using strictly single-phase approaches to multi-phase flow problems
- Review basics of multiphase CFD modeling
- Examine the possibilities and limitations of CFD models for future gas-liquid contacting designs
Assessment of Learning Outcomes
Students' achievement of the learning outcomes will be assessed via a short post-assessment (true-false, multiple choice and fill in the blank questions).
