Purpose and Background
This session is sponsored by the buildingSMART USA Committee.
This session will discuss the future of the digital innovation in statutory process by making openBIM and openGIS shareable and scalable at a city scale. Attendees will gain insights to the workflow of integrating openBIM and openGIS, the information requirements needed for such a workflow, proven applications of an integrated platform based on open standards, and the challenges/limitations of openBIM. The speakers will also make the case for how openBIM and open GIS can become synergistic to the recent open-standards initiatives in the horizontal sector of the US.
City management using a digital twin that incorporates data models for assets is showing profound potential. Government agencies creating a data repository for storing BIM have seen the number of models grow into hundreds of thousands. The city of Dresden has a data repository with 136,000 models, Rotterdam has 205,000, and Hong Kong foresees 300,000 models in the future. The number can only grow as road and bridge models are added to the repository. The challenge for the cities will be managing the quality of the sheer number of models in a scalable-and-repeatable manner while using open standards.
This session is best suited for mid-senior level professionals with 5+ years of experience in their respective fields. This session is also suited for individuals with prior knowledge of and exposure to BIM, GIS, and digital twin concepts.
Learning Outcomes and Session Benefits
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Explain the standards and protocols of openBIM and openGISDiscuss the role of projects, initiatives, and public policy changes in promoting equity within transportation systems for marginalized communities.
- Identify the latest and global trends in the use of openBIM and openGIS
- List ways to support quality assurance and control processes of governments responsible for receiving, checking, and integrating BIM
- Apply BIM specification
Assessment of Learning Outcomes
Learning outcomes are assessed and achieved through participation in the live Q/A with our speakers, and by responding to the post- session survey. If the course is taken OnDemand, there will also be a 10 multiple choice question post-test.
Who Should Attend?
- City/municipal government officials (e.g., City Planners)
- BIM/GIS managers and technical staff
- AECOO professionals
- Technology solution providers for digital twin platforms
How to Earn Your PDHs and Receive Your Certificate of Completion
This course is worth 1 PDH. To receive your certificate of completion, you will need to attend the live session and/or watch the recording(s) and complete the post-session survey. If the course is taken On-Demand, there will also be a 10 multiple choice question post-test.
