Purpose and Background
This course will only award PDHs for completion.
This panel discussion on modular design in healthcare construction focused on innovative approaches to managing rising costs and labor shortages, including realizing significant cost savings through modular construction. The panel also covered the environmental benefits of modular design, including reduced greenhouse gas emissions and enhanced sustainability practices. The speakers shared insights on the efficiency of modular construction schedules, showing how prefabrication can shorten overall project timelines. Quality control and minimized site disruption were noted as additional advantages of modular methods. The panel concluded with examples of integrating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems into modular designs, demonstrating practical applications in recent projects.
Learning outcomes and session benefits
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Explain the cost-saving benefits of modular construction.
- Evaluate the environmental impacts of modular design in civil engineering, including reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and the implementation of sustainable construction practices.
- Develop strategies for managing the project delivery process of modular construction, including coordination between architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure seamless project execution.
- Describe innovative modular construction techniques and materials, evaluating their potential to improve project sustainability and efficiency in civil engineering applications.
