INSTRUCTOR:
Praveen K. Malhotra, Ph.D., P.E., M.ASCE
Purpose and Background
This webinar will discuss site-specific seismic ground motions for:
Design of buildings and other structures as per ASCE 7-16
Upcoming changes in ASCE 7-22
During this webinar, a real-life example will be solved in a step-by-step manner so the attendees can learn by reproducing the results and asking questions. Discussions are encouraged during the webinar. A soft copy of the entire class notes will be provided before the webinar.
Benefits and Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Explain the basis of current requirements in ASCE 7-16 and upcoming changes in ASCE 7-22
- Explain the requirement ASCE 7-16 requirements for site-specific seismic ground motions
- Avoid commonly made mistakes in generating the site-specific ground motions
- Obtain clarifications regarding design ground motions
- Use various resources by the USGS, ASCE and ATC
Assessment of Learning Outcomes
Students' achievement of the learning outcomes will be assessed via a short post-assessment (true-false, multiple choice and fill in the blank questions).
Who Should Attend?
Geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, architects, seismologists, geologists, building officials, insurers, regulators, students, educators

How to Earn your CEUs/PDHs
This course is worth .4 CEUs /4 PDHs. To receive your certificate of completion, you will need to complete a short on-line post-test and receive a passing score of 70% or higher within 30 days of the course.
How do I convert CEUs to PDHs?
1.0 CEU = 10 PDHs [Example: 0.1 CEU = 1 PDH]
