Purpose and Background

​​This in-depth seminar introduces A/E professionals to Geographic Information System (GIS) applications in asset management. Participants will gain foundational GIS knowledge and explore methodologies for evaluating and developing effective asset management programs using GIS models. With a blend of theoretical concepts and real-world applications, the seminar offers valuable insights for both GIS novices and experienced practitioners in the A/E industry. This concise seminar is a subset of a comprehensive five-course series, providing a stepping-stone for future in-depth studies and immediate professional application in GIS and asset management.

Benefits and Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

• Given GIS application scenarios in infrastructure asset management, the learner will be able to accurately identify three opportunities where GIS enhances asset management operations.
• By the end of the seminar, the learner will be able to develop a GIS program prototype, addressing specific organizational needs in infrastructure asset management, and evaluate its effectiveness based on two key criteria taught during the lesson.
• Given a data collection scenario, the learner will be able to design, test, and refine a workflow, effectively implementing changes based on at least two pieces of feedback received during field tests.
• Upon reviewing a case study, the learner will be able to propose two strategic implementations of GIS Asset Management Programs and correctly describe their alignment with the three key life-cycle principles of Asset Management.
• At the conclusion of the seminar, the learner will define and match three desired outcomes with applicable performance measures for a given GIS Asset Management Program goal.
• Presented with a list of Project Management Knowledge Areas and technologies, the learner will accurately identify and explain six that are essential within GIS Asset Management.
• Given a set of GIS concepts and technologies, the learner will accurately define the GEOID model and identify two topological requirements essential for maintaining data integrity in GIS Asset Management Programs.

Assessment of Learning Outcomes

Students' achievement of the learning outcomes will be assessed via a short post-assessment (true-false, multiple choice and fill in the blank questions).

How to Earn your CEUs/PDHs

This course is worth 1.4 CEUs/14 PDHs. To receive your certificate of completion, you will need to attend at least 75% complete a short post-test onsite and receive a passing score of 70% or higher.
