Course Length: 90 Minutes
Purpose and Background
Carbonate and evaporite geologic formations underlie a large portion of the world. These formations contain soluble compounds that result in portions of the formations dissolving over time to produce cavities, conduits, enlarged joints, caves, etc. The landforms resulting from these features are referred to as karst. Karst poses many geotechnical concerns such as subsidence, sinkholes, uneven structural support, high groundwater production, and groundwater sensitivity to contamination. Grouting is often used to mitigate many of these concerns.
Grouting in karst poses unique challenges due to the nature and distribution of karst features in the subsurface. There are a number of different grouting techniques that can be used effectively, but each has its own considerations and limitations. This webinar will present these methods and discuss measures for control the grouting program to optimize the benefit and minimize the potential for a performance failure and cost overruns. This webinar also discusses applications of jet grouting, limited mobility grouting, hot bitumen grouting, and others.
This presentation includes a brief introduction to karst and the implications for geotechnical grouting. It also discusses methods and strategies and provides examples for mitigating various aspects of karst.
Primary Discussion Topics
- Geotechnical issues in karst
- Mechanics of Grouting in karst
- Applications and limitations of various methods for grouting in karst

How to Earn your CEUs/PDHs and Receive Your Certificate of Completion
To receive your certificate of completion, you will need to complete a short on-line post-test and receive a passing score of 70% or higher within 1 year of purchasing the course.
How do I convert CEUs to PDHs?
1.0 CEU = 10 PDHs [Example: 0.1 CEU = 1 PDH]
