Purpose and Background
The purpose of this course is to provide professional training for port authority and private terminal managers in the area of strategic asset management (SAM). SAM (ISO 55000) has long been recognized as an important business process that directs capital investment in order to maintain critical assets in their optimal level of service. Participants in the course will participate in a breakout session on Day 2 that will allow you to build on the lessons of both days. The task will be to build on the lessons of the previous two days to develop a composite road map that addresses the challenges and opportunities raised by your group members in terms of needs assessment, gap analysis, policies and plans that need to be completed at a hypothetical port agency. This exercise will stress the relationship between strategic asset management and tactical asset management (CMMS and condition assessments). It is important to cover the scalability of the approach to AM based on the port’s size, complexity, resources and needs. Each group will present its findings and recommendations for general discussion.
