Course Length: 60 minutes
Purpose and Background
The Guideline for Certification of Stormwater BMPs has two primary purposes 1) Development of a protocol for assessing the efficiency of MTDs (Manufactured Treated Devices) used for physical separation of nondissolved solids from stormwater runoff, including the assessment of scouring of settled particles under high flow conditions. The removal of trash, leaves, and hydrocarbons are not included in this protocol. 2) To aid regulators in establishing certification programs for MTDs with a broad set of analytical tools that could be adapted for local regulatory agency needs.
The following critical components of the Guidelines are addressed in this webinar: Laboratory Testing, Scaling Relations, Field Testing, Data Analysis and Performance Evaluation, Data Reporting, Inspection and Maintenance, and Verification and Certification Programs and Processes.
Benefits and Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Recognize three distinctively different and essential skill sets necessary to monitor and evaluate MTDs.
- Explain why laboratory testing results and field testing of MTDs are not comparable.
- Explain why Suspended Solids Concentration sampling gives better results than Total Suspended Solids in field testing.
- Recognize recommended MTD laboratory testing method.
- Apply proper ways to monitor MTD performance in a lab and in the field.
- Recognize the difference between concentration and mass loading based monitoring.
- List different methods utilized in different U.S. regions for statistical evaluation of MTD performance.
- Examine principal methods utilized in MTD Verification and Certification programs across the U.S.
Assessment of Learning Outcomes
Students' achievement of the learning outcomes will be assessed via a short post-assessment (true-false, multiple choice and fill in the blank questions).
Intended Audience
- ASCE joint task committee on guidelines for certification of stormwater BMPs Committee – 63 committee members from: major stormwater organizations, testing Labs, private sector, manufacturers, and 20 universities

How to Earn your CEUs/PDHs and Receive Your Certificate of Completion
To receive your certificate of completion, you will need to complete a short on-line post-test and receive a passing score of 70% or higher within 1 year of purchasing the course.
How do I convert CEUs to PDHs?
1.0 CEU = 10 PDHs [Example: 0.1 CEU = 1 PDH]
