Purpose and Background
Engineers and designers have many choices regarding which stormwater BMP's to use for proposed development and for projects that target water quality improvements for existing impervious surfaces. However, it can be challenging to know which BMP is best suited for a specific project site. Stormwater wetlands are constructed, free-surface wetlands that utilize a complex system of biological, physical and chemical processes to remove an array of pollutants from stormwater runoff. They are a commonly used BMP for treating runoff from development sites and industrial waste. However, as with most engineered treatment systems, there are real world challenges and design constraints that should be considered to effectively utilize this evolving technology.
This webinar will provide participants with various technical backgrounds with a better understanding of how to utilize stormwater wetlands to achieve water quality and quantity treatment goals. The presentation will also demonstrate how to find and understand the regulatory requirements for your projects, review the latest research findings, locate sources for design guidance and present practical design considerations through an example site evaluation.
You will learn the latest updates regarding stormwater wetlands, practical limitations, and how to evaluate regulatory requirements and site constraints to determine the applicability of stormwater/free surface constructed wetlands in various scenarios.
Webinar Benefits
- Gain a better understanding of how free surface wetlands achieve pollutant reductions
- Learn how site constraints govern design
- Improve your ability to understand statutory codes and regulations related to stormwater management
