Purpose and Background
As water quality regulations continue to strengthen, it is more important now than ever that civil engineers specify stormwater quality Best Management Practices (BMPs) that target specific pollutants of concern to maximize overall benefits. This webinar provides an overview of a wide-range of BMPs from wet detention basins, first-flush capture, filtration and infiltration methods, to stormwater wetlands. Commercially available systems are also addressed and critical information on long-term effectiveness and maintenance requirements of various BMPs is discussed. Participants also learn about features of International BMP database and portions most applicable for public agency, academic, and consulting engineers.
This webinar distills the latest research on the effectiveness of stormwater quality BMPs and discusses the various types of BMPs as well as manufactured systems that are effective for different situations. Participants learn about the pollutant removal efficiencies of various BMPs, how to select BMPs for specific pollutant removal, and long-term maintenance requirements for various BMPs.
Learning Outcomes/Benefits
- Gain exposure to up-to-date research on effective post-construction stormwater BMPs
- Understand the role of vegetation in providing stormwater quality treatment
- Discover how to remove sediment/TSS, heavy metals, nutrients, and bacteria with BMPs
- Learn to select post-construction stormwater BMPs for specific pollutant removal
