Purpose and Background
This techsession will only award PDHs for completion.
Embodied carbon represents the carbon emissions associated with the production of materials and construction. For new building construction over the next 10 to 15 years, carbon emissions due to embodied carbon will exceed the operational emissions of those buildings. And for infrastructure projects with no operational emissions, the embodied carbon accounts for the all the carbon emissions associated with the projects. With growing demand for embodied carbon reduction driven by project owners and policy requirements, structural engineers must update their project specifications to address embodied carbon.
