Purpose and Background

Introduction to Solid Waste Transfer Design for Rural Communities At the request of the Indian Health Services (IHS), EWRI is developing a webinar on the design of solid waste transfer facilities for rural areas. The webinar will be geared to the needs of the IHS engineers but will be open to all. The webinar will begin with a high level overview of open dump cleanup. The availability of facilities to transfer solid waste is key to the prevention of continued open dumping. This webinar will instruct engineers on how to select a waste transfer option based on local needs and site characteristics. This webinar will cover design fundamentals for waste transfer stations as an option for waste removal in typically rural areas with sanitation deficiencies.
