Purpose and Background

This webinar is aimed at small to mid-size utilities whose staff may not typically attend national or international conferences but who could benefit from a basic explanation of the challenge of reducing the impact of infiltration and inflow (I/I) due to wet weather events. With a myriad of inspection and rehabilitation technologies and software available to utilities, it can be overwhelming to know where to start and to discern what would be valuable to incorporate and adopt. This webinar will explain and categorize the various data sources, identifying the most important components recommended to be captured to mitigate wet weather and the appropriate technologies to be applied to analyzing and maintaining the system.

The attendees will be able explain and apply an approach to leveraging existing data to analyze the performance of their wastewater utility asset systems under wet weather conditions.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

• Gain a basic understanding of the sources of inflow and infiltration within wastewater networks
• Examine the adverse impact of wet weather on sewer systems
• Evaluate and use probability of failure and consequence of failure factors to rank wastewater assets for further field inspection and action
• Recognize ways to leverage desktop computer based (GIS centric) technology to track asset condition and estimate I/I volumes
• Examine the use of computer-based decision frameworks to select assets for condition assessment and subsequent renewal/rehabilitation to reduce I/I over time

Assessment of Learning Outcomes

Students' achievement of the learning outcomes will be assessed via a short post-assessment (true-false, multiple choice and fill in the blank questions).
