Purpose and Background
Recent advances wastewater treatment facility design has led to an increase in permitted systems that incorporate recharge and reuse. As more of these facilities are being implemented, communities are recognizing the host of benefits. Agencies throughout the country have permitted reuse/recharge systems but design requirements vary state to state.
Recent advances in decentralized wastewater have allowed large systems in excess of 1 MGD to be installed. Most traditional engineering university curriculums have not provided training in this field of environmental engineering. With a decentralized wastewater treatment approach, groundwater is extracted, utilized, and treated onsite. It is returned close to its point of origin to recharge the aquifer. From small residential systems to large-scale facility or community discharges, these natural approaches provide suitable long-term treatment solutions. The training session focuses on the evolving market for decentralized wastewater systems that incorporate recharge and reuse. This provides engineers with an additional solution to consider where water resources are strained.
The primary goals of this webinar are to familiarize wastewater engineers/planners with the newest innovations in wastewater design practice. The webinar discusses case study projects that addressed community goals of keeping their discharge as a resource in lieu of just dumping it.
