Purpose and Background
For many years, the design professionals, owners, and contractors involved in building renovations have struggled with one important question: to what degree should a renovated building comply with the code for new construction? Some considered a false choice between doing nothing and a complete rebuilding. The International Existing Building Code (IEBC) was published to provide answers to this question and to promote reuse of existing buildings.
