The webinar allows the audience to see this webinar straight from my office, without having to travel. I have attended many ASCE webinars and find that ASCE knows how to put together an effective webinar. Anonymous Attendee
INSTRUCTOR: J. G. (Greg) Soules, P.E., S.E, P.Eng., SECB, F.SEI, F.ASCEPurpose and Background
Nonbuilding structures and their associated mechanical and electrical nonstructural components are used extensively in industrial facilities all over the world. Many of these industrial facilities are located in areas of high seismicity. Chapter 15 of ASCE 7-16 contains extensive requirements for the seismic design of nonbuilding structures. Additionally, nonbuilding structures in industrial facilities often house mechanical and electrical nonstructural components. Chapter 13 of ASCE 7-16 contains extensive requirements for the seismic design and anchorage of nonstructural components. Knowledge of the requirements and application of ASCE 7-16's Chapter 15 and Chapter 13 is essential for any structural engineer involved in the design of industrial structures and facilities.
Primary Discussion Topics
- The determination of the basic seismic parameters for nonbuilding structures and nonstructural components
- The determination of seismic forces on nonbuilding structures supported by other structures
- The use of the new vertical seismic ground motion response spectrum in the design of nonbuilding structures
- The determination of seismic forces on common nonstructural components attached to nonbuilding structures
- The interrelation and overlap between Chapter 15 and Chapter 13 of ASCE 7-16
- Special considerations for the seismic design of tanks and vessels
