ASCE's new Geographic Information Systems for Asset Management Certificate Program is designed for practicing engineers to develop in-demand skills used to manage GIS applications for infrastructure assets. You will be able to apply the fundamental concepts of GIS, including development of GIS applications, implementation of GIS data within existing networks, process improvement using geospatial analysis and proper maintenance and operation of spatial databases.
In these 12-week courses, you'll acquire sought-after skills that will help you excel in your current position or advance to a new one. You'll be taught from the unique insight and knowledge of a master's level instructor who is highly experienced in construction engineering.
Suggested Pre-Requisites
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Architecture or Construction
OR - Experience working in either private or public agencies that manage infrastructure assets

- Complete all (5) guided online courses within 4 years from enrollment
- Earn a certificate of completion after all (5) courses are finished
You will be able to:
- Develop GIS programs for infrastructure asset management to satisfy organizational needs
- Design, manage, and maintain GIS program workflows
- Discuss steps and methodologies for evaluating asset management programs
- Develop a planning framework to guide the development of a new GIS asset management program
- Employ GIS applications to improve asset management operations
- Use conceptual hourly production costs to estimate costs of data collection
- Describe quantile classifications of asset data and uses for and challenges inherent in Boolean overlays
- Develop a spatial analysis framework, and use that framework to build specific geospatial analysis methods for particular applications
- Identify key elements and processes for development of spatial database
- Describe effectual methods of maintenance of asset management databases for spatial analysis
- Discuss concepts for the management of spatial databases
