Purpose and Background
Buildings may be deliberately attacked with explosive weapons or accidentally exposed to industrial deflagrations and detonations. These explosive loads, can cause significant damage to conventionally designed buildings resulting in a high number of casualties, injuries, and loss of important assets. In order to provide adequate protection to its occupants and important assets, buildings and structures must be properly analyzed, designed, and constructed to resist blast loads. This webinar familiarizes engineers and architects with the methods for analysis, design, and construction of blast-resistant buildings in ASCE 59-11. It discusses blast-resistant design of structural and façade components, as well as retrofit methods, available software, and analytical tools.
