INSTRUCTOR: David K. Hein, P.Eng.
Course Length: 1 hour
Purpose and Background
The use of permeable pavements for stormwater management is gaining rapid acceptance across North America. While permeable pavements have been around for decades, their continued performance relies on critical design and construction considerations, and on regular surface cleaning. This webinar highlights best practices for the design, construction and long-term maintenance of asphalt, concrete and interlocking concrete permeable pavements. Lessons learned from the preparation of a new ASCE Standard for the Design of Permeable Pavements are presented. Attendees will learn how to design lasting permeable pavement and effectively manage stormwater at the source.
Primary Topics of Discussion
- Permeable pavement site characterization
- Risk matrix for the evaluation of the suitability of a permeable pavement for a specific site location
- Design detailing for permeable pavements
- Lessons learned from the construction and maintenance of permeable pavements
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Recognize factors that may impact the suitability of a site for a permeable pavement
- Determine common design and construction features important to the performance of permeable pavements
- Identify the impact of permeable pavement design features
- Communicate and promote sustainable pavement design and construction
- Discover how to build a lasting permeable pavement
Webinar Benefits

How to Earn your CEUs/PDHs and Receive Your Certificate of Completion
To receive your certificate of completion, you will need to complete a short on-line post-test and receive a passing score of 70% or higher within 1 year of purchasing the course.
How do I convert CEUs to PDHs?
1.0 CEU = 10 PDHs [Example: 0.1 CEU = 1 PDH]
