Curved façades are very attractive to architects and designers, because they can be elegant, organic or suitable for air flow. They are often less attractive to the engineers, contractor and developers because they seem complicated, non-rational, and expensive. This webinar presents several curved façade projects and curved glass solutions in comparison to flat façade or flat glass applications. It presents comparisons of several techniques in terms of geometry, glass panels’ aspect ratio, cost, fabrication approach, installation sequence approach. It also presents the structural glass design approach including strength calculation, laminate relaxation determination, connection detailing.
Primary Topics of Discussion/Webinar Outline
- Curved glass facades
- Hot Bent Glass (fabrication, panel size, geometrical aspects, cost)
- Cold Bent Glass (different approaches fabrication, panel size, geometrical aspects, cost)
- Analysis of Cold Bent Glass
- Creep of laminated glass under permanent stress (installation sequence, connection detailing)
Learning Outcomes
- Understand more about decision parameters of curved glass types (geometry, and cost)
- Learn the finer points of laminated Cold Bent glass calculation and design
- Gain knowledge about adequate glass support connection detailing
