INSTRUCTOR: Rick De La Guardia, E.I., M. ASCE
Co-sponsored by ASCE's Architectural Engineering Institute and ASCE Continuing Education.
Studies have shown that buildings constructed with impact-resistant glazing systems greatly reduce damage to structures in the event of a hurricane, when combined with other structural safety codes. This webinar discusses in detail the importance of hurricane resistant glazing systems, how to read and understand glazing shop drawings, how to handle deviations from approved shop drawings, what the critical facets are of hurricane-resistant glazing system installation, and how to prepare proper inspection reports and statements of inspection.
Purpose and Background
As a critical part of the building envelope, especially in hurricane prone regions, glazing systems are our first line of defense during a powerful storm. Building Inspectors and design professionals need to be aware of the intricacies and nuances that make a glazing system hurricane resistant. If our glazing systems are our first line of defense, proper installation and inspections are our last chance to get things right. Without proper inspections to ensure the glazing systems are installed in compliance with the design intent, all of the advances in hurricane engineering design would be wasted by a deficient installation. Contrary to what one might think, this happens quite often. This webinar will show you what to look for to help ensure a safe and secure hurricane resistant glazing system installation.
